The General Secretary of CIBA Mr. Andreas Pishias together with other key associations and members of the business community in Cyprus met with the British Government’s Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union The Rt Hon Mr. Steve Barclay and members of the British High Commission.
The meeting which took place at the British High Commissioner’s Residence discussed the impact of Brexit for UK-Cyprus trade. It is the belief of the British Government that a solution can be reached between the EU and the United Kingdom if both parties show flexibility specifically related to the issue of the Backstop clause for Northern Ireland. There was also a clear message that a no-deal Brexit would have an adverse effect on the economy for both the United Kingdom as well as Cyprus and other EU member countries.
We would like to thank again the Rt Hon Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union Mr. Steve Barclay and the British High Commission from providing us with the opportunity to voice our thoughts and hear about the current discussions taking place.
