COVID-19 – Covid-19 Tracer Application launched – Exposure Notification (CovTracer – EN) – Launch by Ministry of Health and the Deputy Ministry of Research Innovation and Digital Policy

An app launched by the Ministry of Health and the Deputy Ministry of Research Innovation and Digital Policy is now available on Google Play Store and Apple App under the following links:

Digital contact tracing apps can help break the chain of coronavirus infections and save lives by complementing and supporting the tracing process. CovTracer-EN, developed by the Centres of Excellence CYENS (formerly RISE) and KIOS, under the supervision of the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy (DMRID) in cooperation with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National eHealth Authority, is part of the State’s effort to develop digital and innovative solutions against the pandemic. All citizens are urged to download the app and actively contribute to the efforts made at a national and European level to limit the spread of Covid-19 and protect our society.

Tracer-EN operates using the Bluetooth protocol, and records user contacts, according to the definition of “close contact”, as defined in the Ministry of Health protocol. The confirmed cases of Covid-19 using the application have the option to fill in the diagnostic code provided by the Epidemiological Unit of the Ministry of Health and to inform anonymously their possible contacts, in order to follow the appropriate steps, according to the relevant instructions of the Ministry of Health. It is noted that the application operates on a purely voluntary basis, with full respect for user privacy.

The development of the CovTracer-EN application is part of a European Initiative, which aims at the development and cross-border functionality of nationally developed tracking applications in the EU Member States. To this end, the European Portal (European Federation Gateway Service), which enables the connection of national databases and control of the virus transmission chain at a pan-European level.
