Following a decision of the Council of Ministers, vaccination with the 3rd dose of the COVID-19 vaccine continues in Cyprus, for persons belonging to specific groups of the population, based on age criteria, but also on their vulnerability to the virus. The process of administering the 3rd dose has been completed in nursing homes, while the gradual vaccination of health professionals and individuals belonging to the vulnerable groups that have been determined continues. To date, the 3rd dose has been administered to 25,886 beneficiaries, who currently have priority for booster vaccination, according to the decision of the Council of Ministers.
Implementing the decision of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Health is moving forward with the vaccination coverage, with a booster dose for people aged 65 and over, thus completing the population group based on age criteria.
More specifically, from Wednesday, October 13, 2021, vaccination appointments will be available through the Vaccination Portal for citizens aged 65 and over, given that a period of six months has elapsed from the date of vaccination with the 2nd dose. In addition to the possibility of arranging appointments through the Vaccination Portal, starting October 13, beneficiaries will be able to receive their booster dose at the walk-in vaccination centres that operate in all Districts, Monday to Thursday, from 8 am to 1 pm.
Finally, it is noted that, on the basis of continued data evaluation, locally and internationally, the Minister of Health, Mr Michalis Hadjipantela, has asked the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee to study the data and send within the week their suggestions on next steps in terms of extending the administration of a 3rd dose to other categories of citizens.
