Cabinet Approves Legislation on Fines in relation to non-adherence to the measures announced to combat COVID-19

The cabinet on Thursday approved a bill amending the law on spot fines to include a €150 fine for offenders breaking quarantine orders issued by the Minister of Health.

The fine will be imposed by police officers on anyone violating the restrictions in circulation and other bans introduced by the government on Monday in a bid to stop the spread of the COVID-19.

This does not mean that the offender will only be liable for the €150 fine. It is up to the discretion of the authorities not to impose a fine but lead the case to court where prison term sentences and/or fines of up to €3000 can be issued.  Be advised that the Cabinet today increased fines in relation to non-adherence to the Quarantine Law to a maximum amount of €3000.
